Storytelling Studio
Kids 9-14 compose, storyboard, and animate their own story with themselves or family members in starring roles. They learn how to get their stories from planning stages on paper and onto a computer where they will learn to edit their animations together with live footage of themselves.

Programs for Spring 2008
The Storytelling Studio will be conducting workshops for the Leal School PTA After Schol Enrichment Program beginning February 20, 2008.
A "family" session of the Storytelling Studio will be conducted on evenings and weekends beginning on March 26, 2008. For more information on how to register, click here.

Previous Programs
July 10-13 (Tuesday - Friday) 2007
1:30 – 3:30 PM
Kids 9-12 will compose, storyboard, and animate their own story with themselves or family members in starring roles. They will learn how to get their stories from planning stages on paper and onto a computer where they will learn to edit their animations together with live footage of themselves.
The focus will be on real or fictional family stories that illustrate the strengths of families or family members. We ask that each child come to the studio with a story idea in mind.

The workshop is free, but enrollment is limited and registration is required. In order to register:
- Participants must be able to attend ALL sessions
- A parent or legal guardian will be required to be present in the building (there are “lounging” facilities available) during the workshop. Parents are welcome to participate in developing a story with their children.

Storytelling Studio Outline
Day 1: Tuesday
Introduce concept (20 mins)

Answer QuestionsStory Creation (1 hour)
- whittle the story down to a concrete simple idea
- Character Bios

- Storyboard plot {Rough designs using pencil and paper}

- Begin final movie versions of characters and setsDay 2: Wednesday
Fine Pre-Production (remaining time)
- Finalize storyboard
- Choose appropriate media (paint, watercolors, markers, crayons, paper cutouts)
- Create final movie versions of Characters
- Scan all images into computerDay 3 and 4: Thursday and Friday
Production (1-1.5 hours)
- Green Screen Shoots
- Download video to computer
- Start Post Production
- Introduction to Adobe After Effects (or Squeak)Day 5: (to be scheduled individually for the following week)
- Each child will come in for an hour and a half individually to animate their movie one-on-one
