The Autism Program

The Autism Program is a comprehensive state-funded network of Centers that provide diagnosis and treatment of autism spectrum disorders.  The Autism Program at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign is an academic-community partnership (led by faculty in the Family Resiliency Center and the Department of Special Education) that focuses on:

(1) serving as resource and referral center for parents and professionals,

(2) developing and evaluating model programs in training, treatment, and family support, and

(3) facilitating collaborations between agencies, schools, and individuals that enhance the community’s capacity for serving individuals with ASD and their families. 

The program has engaged the participation of faculty and students at the University of Illinois (Human & Community Development, Social Work, Special Education, Psychology, Speech and Hearing Sciences), along with school personnel, hospitals, agencies, and private therapists.

Highlights include:

  • Family Community Resource Room that includes home teaching kits, visual supports, reference materials, resources and referrals.
  • New Parent Diagnosis Family and Parent Orientation
  • Social Skills Programs
  • Family and school consultations
  • Training for parents and professionals
